Is Tyre Pyrolysis Profitable?

Yes, tyre pyrolysis plant is very profitable, no matter you are in India, or the UK, etc. Because we can get various products from tyre pyrolysis recycling, which have a mature market. Let’s review the uses of the end products.

Pyrolysis Oil

1.It can be directly used to produce heat by using boilers, gas turbines, and diesel engines. Due to its lower price, you can sell it to heavy industry, such as cement manufacturing plant, steel factory, boiler factory, etc. Of course, you can also use it as fuel to heat the pyrolysis reactor.

2.You can refine it into diesel to sell at a higher price. After distillation, it can be used in heavy equipment.

The tyre pyrolysis oil price is 346 USD/ton. And the price is expected to grow to 500 USD/ton during 2020-2025. Generally, we can get 400-450 kg of pyrolysis oil from 1,000 kg of old tires through the pyrolysis process.

Carbon Black

The price of carbon black is about 80 USD/ton. It can be used as a reinforcing agent in rubber products, such as tires, rubber products, gaskets, pads, boots, conveyor belts, etc. Also, it is a kind of low-quality fuel. According to the quality of tires, you can get 30-35% carbon black, say 300-350 kg from 1,000 kg of tires, through the pyrolysis process. You can sell it directly, or further process it by briquetting or grinding for a high price.

Steel Wire

The third product from the pyrolysis tyre recycling plant is steel wire, which is about 10-15%. It depends on the quality of tires. For the all-steel radial tires, you can get about 28% steel wire. While for bias tires, there is only 8% steel wire. And the selling price is from 150-250 USD/ton. If you want to sell at a higher price, you need to remove the steel wire before pyrolysis. Also, do not change the rigidity while removing the steel wires out.

Combustible Gas

For Beston pyrolysis plants, combustible gas is recycled as fuel to heat the reactor during the pyrolysis process. While it is redundant, so you can collect it for further use, for example, power generation, heat supply, etc.

How to Prepare for Pyrolysis Tyre Recycling Plant Project Report?

Distinguish By-products of Tyre Recycling Business

Tyre recycling business mainly includes pyrolysis and tyre shredding. Before purchase, you need to make clear what you will use the by-products for. For example, you can make shredded tires or rubber powder for sale. Or you can make oil from old tires with a pyrolysis unit and distillation equipment. According to the different uses of the end products, please make sure that you will find the equipment to maximize your benefits.

Power requirements & Labor Force Input

Power and fuel consumption, and labor force input will influence the operating cost. Beston pyrolysis system can be designed with your available fuels so that you can choose a cheap one. Also, it can recycle the combustible gas as heating fuel, which will greatly reduce your fuel costs.

You need staff to operate your tire pyrolysis recycling equipment. You can choose a batch, semi-continuous, or fully continuous system. The batch one is more affordable, but if your labor costs are high, consider upgrading your plant with fully continuous tyre pyrolysis plant, such as an automatic feeder or discharging system.

Advantages of Pyrolysis Tyre Recycling Plant

  • Great economic benefit. As mention above, it can make you about 1,000 dollars per day.
  • Effective method for waste reduction. There are millions of tons of old tires to dispose of. Most are landfilled or openly dumped, which is harmful to the local surface and groundwater. Pyrolysis projects can reduce the stockpiles of old tires greatly.
  • Waste to useful. New products are generated from waste tires, including fuel oil, carbon black, etc. Pyrolysis technology is a process to recycle waste into something useful.
  • Pyrolysis oil is an alternative for crude oil, which is low-cost to be used in heavy industry, such as cement manufacturing, etc.
  • There is no or very little emissions or waste produced during tyre pyrolysis process if performed properly. For example, Beston offers a complete purification system to deal with exhaust gas and waste water, such as spray tower, fuel condenser, etc.
  • Easy operation, especially when you employ a continuous pyrolysis system.

How Does It Work & What Equipment Is Required?

In general, it has several steps, including pre-treatment, feeding, pyrolysis, discharging, de-dusting systems. Below are the detailed steps.

For batch pyrolysis plant, it is available to feed in whole tires. But if you want to process more tires or using a continuous pyrolysis plant, you can use shredded tires or rubber powder as raw materials. Before that, you need to remove the steel wire inside. Also, the suggested water content is less than 15%. So you may need a dryer, tyre shredding machine, steel wire remover, etc. for pre-treatment.

Feeding & Pyrolysis

Then the prepared raw materials will be fed into the reactor for pyrolysis. You can use a feeder or feed manually. It will take about 1.5-3 hours. Another 1-3 hours later, the temperature rises and the pyrolysis process begins. Also, the combustible gas will be generated, which will go through the purification system and be reused as fuel to heat the reactor. When the temperature rises up to 200 degrees, oil will be produced. It will last 6-8 hours. The pyrolysis oil will go through the manifold to extract light oil, and be liquid in the condenser. Then it will be collected into the oil tank. While the heavy oil will be collected in the slag oil tank. The main equipment used here is the tire pyrolysis machine, manifold, oil condenser, etc.

Discharging & De-dusting

During the process, the tail gas will go through the fuel condenser to cool down and remove the harmful components. Also, the carbon black will be discharged. There is a water cooling system to cool it soon, which makes the plant safer. If you use a batch pyrolysis plant without a water cooling system, you need to wait for 8-10 hours for cooling down.

Beston pyrolysis system is also equipped with a purification system to remove the sulfur in the combustible gas first. It is also used to clean the tail gas. Commonly, this system includes fuel condenser, spray tower, chimney, induced draft fan, etc. It can be customized according to your local emission policy. Below is a video for your reference.

Time of Operation

It contains the service life of your tire to oil plant and operating time, which is also an important factor in your pyrolysis tyre recycling plant project report. For example, the batch pyrolysis machine is able to process one batch per day. Generally, the whole pyrolysis process lasts 16-20 hours. But if performed properly, it can process 3 batches in 2 days. Also, Beston has designed one pyrolysis system with two reactors, which can make full use of the heating system, discharging and de-dusting system, and time. You need to make sure that operation time declared by the manufacturer is correct, which can help you plan your expenses ahead.
