Biomass Pyrolysis Plant
Understand Biomass Pyrolysis Technology
The biomass pyrolysis process is essentially a controllable reduction reaction in a closed container. The reaction is carried out in a high-temperature microaerobic environment. Biomass is rich in lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose. During pyrolysis, these substances decompose. It mainly involves the following stages:
- Dehydration: In a heated high-temperature environment, the internal water molecules in biomass gradually evaporate.
- Demethylation: When the reaction temperature reaches 250°C, the organic compounds in biomass lose methyl groups during pyrolysis.
- Aromatic compound conversion: aromatic compounds in biomass undergo dehydrogenation, condensation, and hydrogenation to form various low molecular weight compounds.
These reactions do not have very obvious stages, and many reactions are carried out crosswise. The charcoal/biochar production in this reaction is rich in carbon. In addition, mixed combustible gas with a high calorific value is also a practical end product.

Working Process of Biomass Pyrolysis Plant: Biomass to Charcoal/Biochar
Pre-treatment
To improve the charcoal output rate, we advise the water content should be less than 15%. Also, the ideal size is between 8 mm to 15 mm. Besides, we offer an automatic feeding system to improve efficiency. For this purpose, you may need dryers, crushers, feeding belts, etc. We will equip that according to your needs. Contact Beston now to design the most suitable biomass pyrolysis machine.
Biomass Pyrolysis
Preheat the biomass pyrolysis reactor for 30-60 minutes. Then feed the prepared material with a constant feeder into the biochar reactor. After 15 to 20 minutes, you can get charcoal out. During this process, there will be a lot of biogas generated, which will go through the cyclone dust remover and spray dust collector. Then it enters the condenser system to get tar and wood vinegar. Then the left combustible gas will be recycled as fuel to heat the reactor. Moreover, the high-temperature exhaust gas after combustion can be the heating source for the drying system.
Discharging
We use a fully sealed water cooling system to cool down the charcoal/biochar to 30 degrees. It can keep workers from high temperatures. Also, the fully sealed design can stop the fly ash of charcoal. It is good for the environment and safety. If your area has higher emission standards, we provide high-end exhaust treatment facilities. The exhaust gas treated by this facility can meet EU standards.
De-dusting System
This system can effectively reduce the harmful substances in the tail gas. It contains cyclone dust remover, spray dust collector, water spray tower, etc. to clean and cool down the exhaust gas.
Application of End Products of Biomass Pyrolysis Plant
Charcoal/biochar is the most important product of biomass pyrolysis machine. Although they are both carbon materials, they exert different properties. The excellent combustion properties of charcoal make it play an important role in fuel production. Meanwhile, the adsorption capacity and carbon sequestration ability of biochar contribute to environmental improvement. Therefore, they have quite a wide range of uses.
Soil Remediation
Biochar is used as a soil amendment to improve soil structure, increase water-holding capacity and provide nutrients needed by plants. It helps enhance soil fertility, reduce pH, and improve soil water-holding capacity and aeration.
Carbon Sink
The use of biochar can store large amounts of carbon in the soil for a long time and act as a carbon sink. This helps slow the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and helps combat climate change.
Feed Additives
Biochar can be used as an additive in feed. It improves the intestinal health of animals to promote development. At the same time, it promotes the absorption of nutrients by the animal’s digestive system. Additionally, it helps reduce the absorption of harmful substances by animals.
Eco-friendly Building Material
As an environmentally friendly building material, biochar has excellent adsorption performance and thermal insulation properties. This helps improve indoor air quality and reduce energy consumption.
BBQ Charcoal
Biomass charcoal can be used as barbecue charcoal after being made into granules or blocks. Charcoal made from food processing waste biomass has the characteristics of high calorific value and low ash content. At the same time, there is a unique flavor.
Hookah Charcoal
In hookah use, biomass charcoal is used as a fuel and additive to enhance the flavor of the tobacco. It burns for a long time and produces clean smoke. Hookah charcoal made from fruit husks or pomace has a great flavor.
Alternative Fuels
Biomass charcoal can be used as a form of biomass energy as a renewable alternative fuel. In some areas, it is used for power generation, heating, or other energy applications. At the same time, this reduces reliance on traditional non-renewable resources.
Smelting Reducing Agent
Biomass charcoal has a high carbon sequestration capacity. This allows it to effectively provide the carbon source required for reduction reactions during the smelting process. Thus, this achieves an efficient reduction of metals.
Biomass Pyrolysis Plant Promote Sustainable Development in Various Industries
Through charcoal/biochar making, biomass pyrolysis machine also leads to the sustainable development of some industries, especially the processing industry and agriculture. The following will take the two industries as examples to reveal the sustainable transformation brought about by the machine.
Processing Industry
- Charcoal achieves an internal cycle energy structure. For processing industries with biomass output, continuous self-supply of raw materials for charcoal production can be achieved. Thus, reusing self-production charcoal as an alternative fuel can sustainably supplement the fossil energy consumption of the processing industry.
- Biochar enables carbon neutrality. In addition to waste biomass, production activities in this industry generate carbon emissions. Through pyrolysis, biomass is converted into biochar with carbon sequestration properties. Biochar can be used in carbon removal projects to obtain carbon offsets. Thus, this creates a neutralizing effect on carbon emissions from the processing industry.
Agriculture
- Biomass pyrolysis reduces carbon emissions. Incineration of waste biomass is a major contributor to carbon emissions in agriculture. In contrast, while reducing waste volume, pyrolysis technology achieves carbon in biomass fixed in biochar stably. In various application scenarios, biochar is difficult to decompose into carbon dioxide. As a result, carbon emissions in agriculture are effectively controlled.
- Biochar realizes closed-loop carbon cycle. Biochar produced from agricultural waste can be reused in farmland. This not only promotes crop growth but also enables long-term stable storage of carbon in the soil. This self-sufficient production model achieves a complete life cycle circulation of carbon.
