Just as humans need sunblock, the Earth needs protection too. Earth’s sunscreen is called ozone. The ozone protects us and all life on Earth from the Sun’s harmful UV radiation which is high in the atmosphere and stratosphere.
Commemorating the 1987 signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, the day advocates activities that create awareness on topics related to climate change and ozone depletion.
What Should We Do to Protect the Ozone Layer
1、Purchase products with “Ozone Layer Protection” or “CFC-free” logo, such as aerosol cans, refrigerators, fire extinguishers, aerosols, sponge pads/mattresses, correction fluid, etc. And use energy-saving and environmentally friendly home appliances.
2. Reasonable disposal of used appliances. Before discarding appliances. Remove CFC and HCFC refrigerants from them (ask the town’s public service department or appliance company about appliance refrigerant reuse programs).
3. Identify which of the existing equipment (e.g. water coolers, air conditioners, cleaning agents…) and supplies use ozone-depleting substances and replace them with cost-effective replacements.
4. Tell people around you the importance of protecting the ozone layer and let them know the destructive effects of those ozone-depleting substances on the atmosphere and human health.
